Councilwoman Since 2024
Rosalee González has served as First Councilwoman since December of 2024. She is a dedicated leader and passionate advocate for the Bloomfield community. She is deeply committed to empowering the Latino community, volunteering her time to provide translation services and connect immigrants with critical resources.
Rosalee played an integral role in passing the council's recent legislation around the use of municipal properties by federal agencies. She is also championing the council's support of restrictions on the sale of cannabis products by non-licensed retailers, pushing for more stringent legislation around local vape shops. As liaison to the Bloomfield Beautification Committee, Rosalee is leading efforts alongside the group to improve quality of life through attention to cleaning up neighborhoods in need and encouraging residents and business owners to take more pride in their surroundings. She is also working with the Historic Preservation Committee to advance protections around certain potentially historic architecture in town.
Rosalee believes that personal connections drive community building and has been responsible for championing street paving throughout the First Ward as well as recent repairs to the bridge across JFK Parkway from Spruce Street.
Rosalee also co-founded a boys’ mentoring group and volunteers with local youth sports, helping to guide and support young people in Bloomfield. Rosalee is the liaison to the Bloomfield Beautification Committee, the Historic Preservation Commission, and the Morris Canal Greenway. Married since 2014, she is the proud mother in a blended family of four children.

Sarah Cruz is a longtime public servant and advocate for children and families. She serves as Chief of Staff to Assemblyman Mike Venezia, supporting legislative and constituent services across the 34th Legislative District.
Before that, she led afterschool and summer programs in Newark, Hanover Township, and at the Montclair YWCA, and later trained providers nationwide through the New Jersey Afterschool Professionals Network. She is also a National Afterschool Matters Fellow, a National Afterschool Ambassador, and the author of Fantastic Finales.
In the Third Ward, Sarah has been responsible for championing flood mitigation especially around Ampere Parkway as well as street paving. Sarah has been a staunch advocate of ensuring attention to the pond in Halycon Park. She is often seen walking her dog, Penny, a rescue from the Bloomfield Animal Shelter, taking notes about ways to improve neighborhoods.
Elected in 2017, Sarah serves as Bloomfield’s Third Ward Councilwoman. She is the liaison to the Municipal Youth Guidance Council, the Civil and Human Rights Commission, and the Juneteenth Advisory Committee, where she helped launch Bloomfield’s Annual Freedom Day celebration. She lives in Bloomfield with her husband, three children, and their dog.

The Candidates
Jason Martinez, MPA, brings a fresh yet experienced perspective to Bloomfield, combining public service expertise with a deep commitment to community engagement. With a professional background in Youth Services, Jason has dedicated his career to developing and supporting programs that provide structure, opportunity, and positive outcomes for young people and families.
Jason’s volunteer local involvement reflects his commitment to thoughtful and sustainable community development. As member of the Planning Board and the Environmental Commission, he has played a role in advancing Bloomfield’s Master Plan, which received statewide recognition with an award in 2025. He continues to help shape policies that balance smart growth with environmental stewardship while working collaboratively to deliver practical, forward-thinking solutions for the community.
In his role as County Liaison for the Township, Jason serves as a critical bridge between municipal and county government, ensuring that Bloomfield remains connected to key initiatives, resources, and funding opportunities. He actively works to secure and advocate for grant funding, helping to expand programs and services while maintaining a strong focus on fiscal responsibility and transparency.
Holding a Master of Public Administration (MPA), Jason combines academic training with real-world experience to navigate government systems, manage resources, and deliver results efficiently and equitably for residents.
